We’ve all seen photos — like the extraordinary image below students on the Brooklyn waterfront — of how American society adapted to pandemic conditions in 1918. And yet a study of history suggests the 1918 flu led to few meaningful health care reforms. That’s a mistake we can’t afford this time.
